Efficient Features

                  Front Elevation

The home’s design is based on featuring a wide variety of energy-efficient and green building features. The Nantucket style cedar shingle siding, durable, maintenance free trimboard and the Marvin Integrity Low-E2 casement windows along with rainscreen system incorporated into the exterior wall design extends the life of the siding and protects deteriorating effects of mold and rot. Cool Series asphalt singles reduce temperatures in the attic by reflecting the sun away. The 2’ overhangs around the 1st & 2nd floors provide shading in the summer, which saves energy. The spray foam insulation was used to help reduce homeowners heating and cooling bill up to 33%.

7.4 kW Solar Panels

Solar energy is not only sustainable, it is renewable and this means that we will never run out of it. It is about as natural a source of power as it is possible to generate. We can generate our own source of electricity via solar panels potentially enabling us to live off grid.

East Rear of House

All drought tolerant landscaping is watered by WaterSense certified sprinkler heads along with a weatherization control center that measures the rainfall, which computes when the next watering is needed to conserves water.

Continuous overhangs provide shading, as seen on the 2nd floor. Open deck by KLEER Decking to rear yard.

There is a Kohler natural gas generator installed in the backyard that will automatically kick on when the power goes out.

Great Room

Energy Star approved LED recess light and all light fixtures are installed though out the home. The LED is a computer chip, semiconductor diode that emits light.  LED’s can save up to 85% of the electricity used by incandescent bulbs and because these types of lights are more efficient it emits very little heat, reducing the load on air conditioning and cooling systems. They also last about 50 times longer, which means less maintenance and less time spent on replacing burned out bulbs. This light also does not contain hazardous materials, such as mercury. There is a gas fireplace offering a dramatic flame and ample heat creating a tranquil escape using spa stones.

Kitchen

The kitchen cabinets and all the vanities are manufactured with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified company, committed to advancing products that affect energy conservation, this creating healthier homes through renewable solid wood materials with formaldehyde-free adhesives and waterborne finishes. All appliances are energy star certified and water conserving. Recycled countertops are composed of 93% natural quartz, one of nature’s strongest minerals and is resistant to stains, scratches, most household chemicals and moderate heat. Topped with a 3”x6” glass backsplash.

Foyer

Two-story foyer opens up to a spectacular custom-built curved staircase with custom vertical raised panels that continue around the 2nd floor hallway. Benjamin Moore “AURE” green promise low VOC on all trim finishes. Benjamin Moore “Natural” green promise No VOC on walls and ceilings. Red Oak hardwood flooring are finished with Low VOC water-based semigloss.

Handicap Bathroom

Curbless ADA accessible bathroom includes Schluter Systems drainage throughout the walls and floor. All fixtures are ADA compliant by Kohler including the vanity. If fact the whole first floor was designed to accommodate a wheel chair including the kitchen and all the appliances. There is tile through out the home which includes recycled content. Master Bathroom

All plumbing fixtures are Kohler and are WaterSense approved. WaterSense, a partnership program by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, seeks to protect the future of our nation's water supply by offering people a simple way to use less water with water-efficient products, new homes, and services. This includes all faucets, water closets and shower fixtures.

Hot Water On Demand

At the push of a button the Hot Water System circulates the ambient (cool) temperature water in the hot water lines (water that is normally lost down the drain) back to the water heater. This occurs up to 80% faster than just letting the water run down the drain—the usual scenario. Depending on the plumbing layout, the route and time can vary. The system moves the water rapidly, so that the hot water arrives at the fixtures before the heat is lost through the pipe.

Utility Room

With the house built so airtight we were able to downsize our HVAC equipment and use a wall mount boiler. We used the newest technology from the world’s leaders in ultra-efficient heating. Under the basement slab is R-13.6 insulation with radiant heat throughout. Hydro air heating for 1st and 2nd floors  modulating 95% high-efficiency boiler with low watt circulating pump’s.

Air conditioning units and air handlers are Carrier Infinity communicating variable speed. Fresh air is continuously circulating by a low watt ERV unit. Hot water heater is a 74 gallon unit with state of the art circulating pumps for direct hot-water. All electricity is monitored online by home energy management system. All CAD 6 high-speed data and voice lines and 200 amp electrical service back up by a Kohler generator.

Electric Car Charger

One-third of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions come from transportation and 60% of that is from personal vehicle use. By generating your own power with PV panels you are fueling your vehicle for free.
